05-04-2019 16:00 – 07-04-2019 14:00
Please also fill the CAMP TRANSPORT FORM when buying your ticket! It's necessary so that we can arrange lifts for everyone efficiently :)   “ ...And this one time, ...when I was at a Choir-Camp...” One weekend each semester, QUMS will host a Choir Camp. This is a weekend retreat, from Friday evening through to Sunday afternoon. As well as being a lot of fun (themed dress-up night, musical revues, board games, singing around campfires etc), we workshop and rehearse in-depth for the upcoming concert. Camp weekends are the cheapest fully-catered weekend away you’ll ever get! Attendance is very important, as it equates to several rehearsals worth of learning. Transport, dietary requirements etc are all catered for. If you must be absent try to make at least a part of the weekend, and discuss with your Section Leader and Musical Director. Payment plans are available, so no drama if you have any financial issues! Just talk to our friendly treasurer Alex Jago :) FAQs Camping/Tents??!!  NO! No tents. Real beds are provided in dormitories of 4 or 8 people, so you can "get a room" with your friends. Or make new ones. Bring your own bedding/sleeping-bag. Campfires? Only for singing around, not for cooking (so bring your songbooks). All catering is done in a professional-grade kitchen. Ablution blocks? Accomodation is dormitory-style, with showers/toilets at the end of the corridor. Bring your own soap and towel! Banging?  A time-held tradition... You may get "banged-up" at dinner and put on the spot to stand up and tell your best/worst joke.  So be sure you bring a joke to share. Fancy Dress? The theme for Saturday night dress-up is.... ROYALTY! Revue? Another time-honoured tradition: After dinner on Saturday, we entertain each other with a bit of a "floor-show"; if you  have a favourite song/ditty/parody or act that you can entertain us with, the stage is all yours for your crack at fame. Or infamy. Judges will decide the winner - but they are easily bribed with chocolates / alcohol / pretty much anything, so bring along a suitable "incentive" :-) Alcohol?  Camp Tamborine is a 'dry' campsite. However, there is a distillery 2 km down the road! Day-trippers? Some folks may not relish the idea of overnighting in anything other than their own feather beds. If this is you, you have the option of commuting (it is a good hour+ drive) each day. Be sure to arrive by 8:30am. If you arrive earlier, you may be rewarded with a hot breakfast. The City of Brisbane Pipe Band is a local non-profit community group, comprising around 25 enthusiastic players who continue this ancient Scottish tradition in sunny Australia today. Formed in 1950, the band proudly wears the McNeill of Barra tartan; plays regularly in local parades, gigs, concerts and festivals; and is an active part of the local piping community, competing in Grade 4 at competitions up and down Australia’s east coast.   Directions to Princess Theatre - 8 Annerley Road, Woolloongabba Parking The closest parking is at the Princess Plaza underground parking (Princess Parking). The entrance to the underground parking is right next to the Plaza (see the map below). Colin Brumby ~ A Retrospective
GHD Auditorium, Advanced Engineering Building
19:00 – 21:00
QUMS is honoured to be paying tribute to the great Dr. Colin Brumby (18 June 1933 – 3 January 2018), with a concert in his honour, commemorating and celebrating his work and his service to not only QUMS and UQ, but to the entire Australian music-loving population. Dovetailing into the 4MBS Festival-of-Classics, the concert will take place at 7pm on Saturday 2nd June, at the GHD Auditorium, UQ St.Lucia Campus. Colin was a well-known presenter on 4MBS Classic-FM, and has a long history with both 4MBS and QUMS. Colin directed the Queensland University Musical Society (QUMS) choir from 1965-6 and 1978-86, often conducting his wife Jenny Dawson, herself a UQ music alumna and QUMS president of the early 70s, who performed as a soprano soloist. Colin and his compositions were so loved by QUMS that when past members heard that he had passed-on, they rang each other, singing from his "Charlie Bubble’s Book of Hours", a favourite performed many times by QUMS, notably with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 1970 with the composer himself at the helm. It was during his second term as Musical Director of QUMS that in 1981, Colin was awarded an Advance Australia Award for service to music. Colin made many of his published and unpublished sacred vocal works freely available to churches around the world, an act typical of his kind and generous character. His service to The University of Queensland through his lecturing and his work with QUMS has created a legacy passed on to hundreds of music students Friends, Alumni, and lovers of his music are invited to join with us we commemorate and pay tribute to a truly remarkable composer. Free Parking is available in the Parking block closest to the GHD Auditorium (with a short walk around the pond).
